Kwame Update

Our beloved mayor of Detroit has been exposed as a terrible, terrible player by the Detroit Free Press. Releasing a series of erotic text messages between the mayor and his chief of staff Christine Beatty, the Free Press once again sheds light on how Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick- a married man- is a bumbling fool.

For a sitting mayor to leave a text trail suggesting an extramarital affair is dumb enough, but to text exact times and locations of their encounters- which can be cross-checked with credit cards and what not- is hilariously stupid.

The most important question, of course, is how smooth of a player is Mayor Kilpatrick?

David Deangelo is considered by many to be a guru on attracting women. According to him, a powerful tool for attracting women is to be "cocky and funny." What is "cocky and funny?"
OK, the basic formula for Cocky & Funny is to take an arrogant comment, then add humor. It's a killer combination. But the key is that it HAS TO BE FUNNY. It actually has to make others laugh.
Let's see how the mayor applies this principle

KK:
They were right outside the door. They [the mayor's bodyguards] had to have heard everything...

CB: So we are officially busted! LOL

KK: LOL LOL! Damn that. Never busted. Busted is what you see! LOL. ...

CB: LOL, LOL. Damn, so they have to walk in before you conceed busted! LOL.

KK: Hell yeah. Walk in

Not bad in my opinion. Perhaps fewer LOLs could have been employed to achieve the same level of funniness. I also feel that the excessive LOLs detracted from the intended cockiness and instead contributed to a projected insecurity. Moreover, the use of a period instead of an exclamation point after "what you see" would have made the punchline a little less loud, given it a seemingly serious edge...

State of the Union

Here it is, the last 40 minute monologue of President Bush. I'm expecting much ado about nothing.

9:10- Congratulates himself and congress for failing to meet the challenges presented to them over the past 7 years.

9:12- "We must trust people with their own money." Indeed, the guiding philosophy of the Bush administration.

9:13- Apparently he trusts people so much with their own money that he believes the Federal government should piss away another $150 billion.

9:15- Surplus in 2012? Government must balance budgets? Are these words coming from the administration that increased the federal debt over $3 trillion?

9:17- Nice to see the president take a stand against earmarks. Too bad they're such a small part of the bloated budget.

9:19- The president throws out some good ideas on healthcare. Too bad they have no chance of seeing the light of day.

9:21- The old, sleepy Ted Kennedy and young-looking Barack Obama are an odd couple.

9:23- LOL, MSNBC cuts to Secretary Gutierrez when a Latin American country is mentioned.

9:24- Democracy leads to a better life? Tell that to the Iraqis and Afghans.

9:26- Nice cutaway to Dingell taking a nap.

9:27- Alright, energy socialism! First we'll throw billions of dollars at inefficient and unclean sources of energy, then we'll throw some money at other countries to buy these technologies. Oh billions of dollars...

9:28- What the hell is "critical basic research" in the physical sciences?

9:29- Once again, the ugly head of social conservatism shows itself...

9:31- What is Nancy Pelosi reading?

9:33- So the president asks the congress to come up with a solution to entitlement problems and the Democrats don't applaud. What the hell do they want him to say?

9:35- President Bush endorses the Dennis Kucinich foreign policy of peace as he describes the two wars he initiated and, of course, continues to prosecute.

9:38- My favorite thing about this president is that he throws around words like freedom and liberty. Apparently, voting itself is all that is required for a society to be "free."

9:39- When were programs distributed at State of the Union addresses? There must be damn good ads in there, because every Democrat in the room is leafing through them.

9:46- Shot of random Democrat giving a massive yawn. Awesome!

9:47- Of course, the 20,000 troops coming home were added last year. What a sad excuse for a drawdown.

9:50- Good luck defeating a tactic

9:54- I wonder how many of these plots were actually realistic and not just pipe dreams.

9:55- "If you don't pass this bill to phonetap Americans and protect companies who broke the law, your children will die."

9:57- Lovely, promoting socialism abroad.

10:02- 52 minutes later, we finally learn that the state of our union is strong! Who could have saw that coming?

Final thoughts: glad it's over.

South Carolina Democratic Debate

Some live-blogging action

8:05- Comrade Hillary is going to centrally plan the mortgage industry to make it more efficient.

8:15- John Edwards is clearly bordering on irrelevancy. He sounds even more moronic than normal.

8:16- Obama: Repealing NAFTA would be good for the economy.

8:18- Hillary: Raising taxes on rich people will create jobs.

Message to the Dems- if you really want to help the economy for more than a year, cut taxes and cut spending. A 100 billion dollar spending spree on obscure technologies in a 12 trillion dollar economy isn't going to do shit besides create even more debt.

8:19- John Edwards makes first mill reference.

8:22- Democrat on Democrat fighting!

8:25- Clinton asks how Obama is going to pay for his spending programs. Clearly Senator Clinton hasn't read her own proposed spending orgies.

8:27- Finally, the most pressing issue of the campaign is being touched on: Ronald Reagan.

8:29- John Edwards: "Hey guys, please notice me and my 5 year plans!"

8:38- Bankers have accomplished something I thought impossible: the Democrats hate them more than George W. Bush.

8:43- Hillary slaps Obama. This is very entertaining.

8:54- Edwards will strengthen the healthcare market through central planning. Brilliant.

8:56- I applaud Senator Obama for acknowledging that sane healthcare policy should seek to make healthcare more affordable rather than mandating or handing out coverage. Unfortunately, his plan does this in the worst possible way.

8:58- Wow does John Edwards sound like a moron. Why shouldn't people be able to get out of something they don't want to be in?

8:59- Hillary Clinton will "go to the mat" for universal healthcare. Very disturbing image.

9:04- Obama has a bizarre "I need to take a shit" squint and posture while Hillary talks about Iraq.

9:15- The Wolf pumps us up for the second half of the debate. I believe they will release the tigers.

9:20- Senator Obama correctly points out that John Edwards is, in fact, a white man.

9:24- Is it just me, or is Hillary mentioning her husband more than usual?

9:31- Finally the media has the balls to ask the all-important question of this election year: was Bill Clinton a black man?

9:39- Second mill reference. How working in a mill relates to racism, I don't know.

9:44- Obama makes a good point about how the Bush administration crippled the Republican Party.

9:45- Edwards predicts a McCain nomination. He must know something I don't.

10:00- What a question to end the debate with: who would Dr. King vote for?

Final thoughts- entertaining. Very entertaining. A great deal of hot air but, hell, it was a hoot.

The Dying Revolution

Is it just me, or has the "Ron Paul Revolution lost a bit of its luster in recent weeks? I guess the combination of accusations of racism, disappointing primary finishes and some of the corniest political advertisements ever will do that to a campaign.

To give you an idea of how bad it's gotten for the Paulites, Ron Paul is is only leading in a Los Angeles Times online poll by 22% the time of this posting. Unheard of!
